Dinan and the Rance River
Dinan, a medieval citadelle city is built on the banks of the Rance River and is without doubt one of the most impressive towns in northern Brittany.
Ovelooking the river from high above, the old town with its ramparts intact is comprised of many wooden-framed buildings, narrow streets and medieval architecture. It's great for shopping, there are lots of traditional restaurants and creperies and fine relaxed atmosphere.
A visit to the river port below is certainly worth it. If you go by foot, take the rue Jerzual… your legs will have a great workout !
Down at the port you'll find the 'Maison de la Rance' - an information centre where you can discover more of the Rance patrimony and traditions.
Depuis le port de Dinan Lanvallay vous pouvez vous diriger vers la Maison de La Rance qui vous propose une découverte originale d'un patrimoine très riche.
There are many walks in the area, and a rambke down the Rance is a fine appetizer for lunch and a glass of cider.
A good walk takes you to Pleudihen sur Rance where at the quay you may catch a glimpse of a seal which has taken up residence !
Before leaving Dinan don't forget to buy the famous "Gavottes" - fine biscuits for which Dinan is famous.
