Saint-Jacut de la Mer
The Saint Jacut peninsula has a stunning landscape and offers excellent views across to the Ebihnes archipelago.
Ledgend suggests that the abbey in St. Jacut was first built in the 5th century. Celtic monks, led by Monk Jacut, arrived from Ireland in search of God.
The abbey receives many visitors and offers educational seminars and spiritual guidance.
The Bay of Cancale and the Pointe du Grouin headland
The Grouin headland and Bay de Cancale are superb natural sites. At times of extreme tides the views of the bay are superb.
Opposite the headland, the Ile des Landes is a bird sanctuary and more than 1000 couples of seagulls have their nests here.

The Rance river Barrage : Tidal electricity generator
In today's times of sustainable energy the Barrage stands out as an exceptional example of how nature can be harnessed to produce energy.
It's even more exceptional given that this plant was built in the 1960's and opened for production in 1966.
It remains, today, the only example of a tidal electicity generation plant in the world.
The barrage straddles the Rance river estuary between Saint-Malo and Dinard. The road joining the two towns runs along the top of the barrage with ample parking space to stop off for a short-time.
We highly recommend, however, that you take the official visit: more than 200,000 visitors a year enjoy the particularly well laid out exhibition with simple explanations and animations to help understand the workings of the barrage. The best part of the visit is when you travel under the barrage to the 300 metre long machine room and get to see the inner workings of the plant.
As you might have already guessed, it's the tidal range in this region that is harnessed to generate electricity, but that's no reason not to do the visit…holidays can also be for learning as well as unwindng !
The Penthièvre Coast
From Pléneuf-Val-André to Erquy
To the east of Saint-cast and Chateau de Galinee lies the Emerald Coast. To the west, toward the seaside rsort of Erquy lies the Penthièvre coast.
Pléneuf-Val-André
Along this coast, the charming seaside resort of Pléneuf-Val-André with its beautiful beach of fine sand and typical fishing port, is well worth a visit.
Every week during the high season the streets of Pléneuf are home to Breton bands or 'Bagads' with their traditional bag-pipes.
There are also many Festnoz in Pléneuf as well as jazz concerts at the Parc de l'Amirauté.
Erquy
The inhabitants of the seaside resort of Erquy are proud of a particular heritage. René Goscinny, creator of the world famous Asterix character is said to have based the gaul Village where Asterix, Obelix and their pals lived, on this town. Goscinny spent many of his boyhood holidays in Erquy.
Definitely worth a visit is the Lac d'Erquy, surprisingly blue and wild !
And don't miss out on the fish marketin the heart of Erquy's fishing port where you'll get an authentic feel for how fishing is very much a part of northern Brittany life.
The Pink Granite Coast
From Perros Guirec to Trebeurden
Further west but still in the Côtes d'Armor department lie Perros-Guirec and Trebeurden. In between these two towns lies an incredible stretch of coast - The Pink Granite Coast - which runs for 15kms.
In addition to the distinct colour of the granite the sea's action has sculpted the rocks into smooth boulders of incredibly strange form.
Two other coasts in the world have the same type of phenomenon : coastal parts of Corsica and China !
The islands opposite the coast here are home to many protected bird species.
The site is approximately 1h 30mn drive from Chateau de Galinee, but very well worth it !
